Custom Artwork Process

Custom artwork is a unique way to celebrate a memory, significant event or special moment in your life. Each piece is hand crafted and lovingly made with you in mind. Elaine Joy Roach offers different options for your custom artwork including digital files or unique handcrafted pieces available in various sizes unframed, mounted on a board, and framed. 

Step One: Choose your subject/theme.  Your choices are limitless!  Share your idea with me and I will help your vision become reality.

Step Two: Choose your style/technique. Your options range from:

  • paper cutting with pen knife
  • paper painting (modern collage) through layering
  • paper sculpture (3D) hand sculpted
  • hand painted quote on paper
  • hand drawn artwork, laser cut wood canvas with paint finish
  • digital artwork file
  • reproduction art print (digital/giclee)

I am willing to combine techniques together if you desire.  I am also constantly experimenting new techniques to offer you more choices.  If you have an idea you wish to explore, let’s talk and I will help you create it.

Step Three:  Choose your size.  For your convenience, we offer standard frame sizes artwork.

  • 5″x7″ starting from $52.50
  • 8″x10″ starting from $120
  • 11″x14″ starting from $231
  • 16″x20″ starting from $480
  • 20″x30″ starting from $900
  • reproduction artwork print $45+
  • small paper sculptures $150 [Height: 7 ¾”, Diameter: 3 7/8″]
  • large paper sculptures $300 [Height: 10 ¾”, Diameter: 5 1/2″]
  • digital artwork file $35 (maximum printing of 10 times)
  • 8″x10″ reproduction artwork print $45
  • 11″x14″ reproduction artwork print $75
  • 16″x20″ reproduction artwork print $150

Step Four:  Choose your colour(s) / pattern

Some techniques only use one paper such as paper cutting and hand painted quotes.  I will try my best to accommodate your colour preferences.  I work with the paper’s natural colours as created by the talented papermakers.  Read Custom Art FAQs and Policies for more information about my materials.

Step Five: Pay Non-Refundable Design Fee.

This payment is required for all custom art commissions before work begins. This fee is non-refundable and covers the cost of materials and the initial design for your piece. The remainder of the cost of the piece, and the cost of shipping will be due before it ships.

Starting prices for custom artwork are listed in step 3.  Very complex requests and larger sizes require more time to complete and increase the labour involved.

Design Fee Pricing:

  • 5″x7″ requires $26
  • 8″x10″ requires $60
  • 11″x14″ requires $115
  • 16″x20″ requires $160
  • 20″x30″ requires $300
  • small paper sculptures requires $75 [Height: 7 ¾”, Diameter: 3 7/8″]
  • large paper sculptures requires $150 [Height: 10 ¾”, Diameter: 5 1/2″]
  • digital artwork file requires $15
  • 8″x10″ reproduction artwork print requires $23
  • 11″x14″ reproduction artwork print requires $38
  • 16″x20″ reproduction artwork print requires $75

*All custom artwork pricing is subject to change.  All prices are in Canadian Dollars.

Step Six:  Custom Artwork Request Confirmation & Custom Artwork Contract 

Elaine Joy Roach will contact you within 2 to 4 business days to finalize details and send you the Custom Commissioned Artwork Contract to be signed.

Step Seven: Sign and submit Custom Artwork Contract

No work will be done on your request until Elaine Joy Roach receives a signed Custom Commissioned Artwork Contract from you.

Step Eight: Custom Artwork Proposal & Second Deposit Required for Larger Sizes

Elaine Joy Roach will create three concepts.  She will share 3 sketches, paper combination palettes and consults with the client (delivered to client within 1-2 weeks of contract being signed and returned).  Client must approve concept in writing (e-mail).  An invoice will be sent through paypal, square or stripe based on the clients payment preference.

Step Nine: Custom Artwork is being made.

Elaine Joy Roach begins work on the custom artwork and will communicate with the client as it is being completed.  She will share status photos with the client throughout the process if client desires.

Step Ten:  Custom Artwork is completed.

Elaine Joy Roach completes artwork within 3-4 weeks of sharing the digital design file. Allow additional 3-4 weeks per artwork if purchasing more than one or custom framing is requested.

Step Eleven: Final Payment required

Elaine Joy Roach will prepare artwork professionally for shipping or delivery.  She will contact client with shipping options.  Based upon buyer’s preference, an invoice will be sent for the remaining balance of artwork and shipping costs.

The client makes final payment. Final payment is based on the size and complexity of the artwork, framing and shipping/delivery costs if applicable.

Step Twelve: Final Payment required

Artwork is shipped to client and may take up to 7 business days to arrive (within Canada).  For shipments outside of Canada, customs clearance and shipping option

Free delivery within Toronto city limits.
